If
you’re looking at this website for the first time,
you’re probably wondering why anybody would name
something after a "Brown Dog” ? Well, why
would they?
Well, legend has it that back in the sixties the driver
of a Pioneer Concrete truck would finish his day’s
work with a beer in the old public bar and his brown
dog on a bar stool beside him.
The dog – probably a kelpie, but no one can say
for certain – would enjoy a packet of chips while
his owner enjoyed his beer. Some old timers even reckon
the dog had a beer now and then.
Over time, the driver and his dog became regular customers,
so in the true Australian tradition the other regulars
soon came up with their own name for the pub –
yes "The Brown Dog". And to this day, many
of the older locals still refer to "The Brown
Dog."
So now, we’ve revived the name with the Brown
Dog Club – a club within a pub – and inviting
our customers to join and have some fun.
